Protect Your Funds

Shoreline Hometown Credit Union members and others across Wisconsin have reported smishing (fraudulent text messages) and phishing (fraudulent phone calls) scams posing as credit union representatives. These scammers impersonate legitimate credit union numbers, making it harder to distinguish real communications from fraudulent ones. The scams typically involve alerts about suspicious activity or payments requiring immediate action, followed by requests for digital banking credentials, secure access codes, or debit/credit card numbers.

Common Scam Tactics:

  • Fraudulent texts claiming suspicious payments that need to be authorized via a fake link.
  • Texts about changes to online banking profiles, again with a fraudulent link.
  • Calls from fake fraud departments asking for the first four digits of your card number

How to protect yourself:

  • Exercise Caution: Be wary of any communication about suspicious activity or account changes. Never share your username, password, secure access code, or debit/credit card numbers. Shoreline Credit Union will never ask for this information.
  • Verify the Source: Scammers can spoof caller ID, text, and email information. Always contact us directly at 920-482-3700 or visit your local branch to verify the legitimacy of any communication.
  • Secure Your Accounts: If you’ve shared your information by mistake, contact us immediately to protect your accounts.
  • Report Scams: Report any fraudulent texts or calls to us as soon as possible. Provide details such as the message content, text ID, and the number provided in the scam.
